Kate fell in love with gymnastics at age 6 after trying soccer and karate. When she was 11 years old, she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Kate faced complications during her chemotherapy treatments which was gangrene infection. At one point, Kate and her family faced the choice of having her leg amputated due to an infection in the knee. She returned to gymnastics when she was 13 years old. She is now cancer free for the past three years, and she competes on the uneven bars and balance beam.
