One of the most frustrating things to deal with in public is having a sensory integration issue. I should know since I face that problem once in a while myself when it causes me a headache. It can be quite frustrating for a parent dealing with a child's coping mechanism for dealing with sensory integration issues in public places. I know for me that withdrawing from the situation until my senses calm down does help, but I know it does not work for every situation out there. For others, the child might wear noise dampening headphones. Another method is a brushing method. An idea is maybe brainstorm with your child to see which method works in certain life situations for them.
