One of the most frustrating issues for a parent of a special needs child is the Individual Education Plan also known as an I.E.P. is not being followed. The I.E.P. is basically a contract between you and the school for the education of your child. The first step is to approach your child's teacher to see what is happening because they often know of the issues. If this fails, you need to talk to your child's Special Education teacher or Special Education director. An I.E.P. meeting can be called at any point during the school year. The last thing you should call is an advocate unless it is a serious problem that can't be resolved by discussing things with the school personnel.
